Booklicious: December Book-to-Film Trailers

December is possibly my favorite month for movies. There's brilliantly written Oscar bait, splashy blockbusters, and charming, Kleenex-demanding family fare—so much to choose from. I'm personally most looking forward to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy—the trailer gives me goosebumps, and the cast of actors is top notch (pity about the hideous hair Benedict Cumberbatch is sporting, though—it's quite a jolt to see after admiring those delicious Sherlock curls). Video after the jump!

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
There's a mole hidden deep in MI6, and semi-retired veteran George Smiley is reactivated to uncover the Soviet agent's identity.
Starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, and Tom Hardy
Based on John le Carré's novel of the same name
In theaters December 9

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
A journalist is hired to investigate a 40-year-old murder case and enlists the services of a young computer hacker in sifting through the increasingly twisted details.
Starring Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, and Stellan Skarsgard
Based on the book by Steig Larsson
In theaters December 21

The Adventures of Tintin
Always in search of a story, young journalist Tintin is on the hunt for a sunken ship, accompanied by his faithful dog, Snowy, and his colorful best friend, Captain Haddock. But someone is determined to beat the trio to the treasure.
Starring the voices of Daniel Craig, Andy Serkis, Jamie Bell, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost
Based on the beloved Belgian comics by Hergé, aka Georges Rémi
In theaters nationwide September 21

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
Holmes and Watson take on their most cunning adversary ever, the notorious Professor Moriarty.
Starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Jared Harris, and Noomi Rapace
Ever so loosely based on the books by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
In theaters December 16

We Bought a Zoo
After his wife dies, a young father moves his family to the countryside and buys a property that comes with a run-down zoo.
Starring Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, and Thomas Haden Church
Based on Benjamin Mee's memoir of the same name

War Horse
A boy and his horse are separated when his horse is sold to the British cavalry during WWI. Determined to be reunited with his beloved horse despite being too young to enlist, his owner travels to war-torn France to find him.

Really looking forward to seeing Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - I heard the BBC radio play a wee while back, so I'm hoping the film version does it justice... It's a great story that's a real slice of cold war history.
