Booklicious: Make Your Own Book Wreath

November 23, 2010

I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet, and thus many of you will be tut-tutting that I'm jumping into the holiday season before the cranberry sauce has even jelled, but I've been in the Christmas mood for weeks now. Besides, I'm British, so Thanksgiving doesn't get in our way (y'know, since we don't celebrate it). (Also, my friend Sarah's status updates about Christmas cards and music really just nudged me over the edge.) So as a result, here's the first post of the Booklicious holiday season!

Wreaths are hot commodities this time of the year, but honestly, when you've seen one evergreen wreath you've pretty much seen them all. (Also, odds are your neighbor has one that looks exactly like yours.) But here's are a few wreaths guaranteed to stand out from the evergreen crowd. Most arts and crafts projects leave me sobbing with frustration, nursing burnt hot-glued fingers and lunging for the nearest bottle of wine, but these actually look manageable. And if you're not entirely convinced, then here's a bit of good news: some of them are for sale.

The tutorial for this piece of gorgeousness can be found at Living With Lindsay. Estimated cost? $2. Heck yes.

Katydid & Kid whipped up this feather-esque wreath after being inspired by Living With Lindsay's above creation.

This mod magazine wreath comes courtesy of Jason of Rag and Bone Bindery. I can't see step-by-step instructions on the page, but one of the commenters put together her own version and posted her tutorial here

But if you'd rather just skip the cutting, scrunching, curling and gluing, then SimpleJoysPaperie has a selection of beautiful book wreaths ready-made for you.

And here's a little more inspiration:

Can I just say how proud I am to be the reason you went over the edge? And I love Christmas so freakin' much - I may just have to make my own book wreath for the living room!

Sarah! I ordered my Christmas cards the night you posted about writing yours, and I can't wait for them to arrive. Also, I've been prodding Michael for a tree for the last couple of weeks, and it looks like this week will be the one we finally decide which to get. Yay Christmas!
