I know, I know, I've been AWOL for the past couple of weeks—gotta love the day job. So let's get back into the swing of things with something fun—The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, winner of this year's Academy Award for Best Animated Short. Created by Shreveport, La.-based Moonbot Studios, the film is its studio's first short. That's a scarily good start. If you've got a 15-minute coffee/smoke/water-cooler break to kill, you can watch it in its entirety below.

The illustrator tries to make a picture book visually lush, with detailed, interesting pictures to capture the imagination. The idea is to get children to ponder each page, savoring the details of the pictures and thinking about them. The pictures draw children into the book, leading him or her to be intrigued by other books, including those with words.
