Albatros Bookmarks
This project is a great example of the power of the Internet and the crowd. Designed by Oscar Lhermitte, the Albatros bookmark is a simple, adhesive page marker that flips with each page you turn, keeping your place without any hassle. To get his idea from prototype to product, Oscar started a campaign on IndieGoGo, with the goal of raising $3,000 by March 23, which would enable him to complete the first production run. To say the campaign was successful is a bit of an understatement—more than $32,000 has been donated, with the bulk coming from $10 and $25 gifts (that's a lot of donors). All donations of more than $1 function as a discounted preorder for the bookmarks, and as the value of the donation increases, so does the value of the order—a $500 donation, for example, nets you 250 personalized bookmarks, a personally addressed postcard, and a copy of designer Bruno Munari's book Design As Art. You can order the Albatros bookmarks for yourself here.
That's so cool! I'll hold off on contributing, because...I kinda only want one? And it doesn't seem like my help is needed anyway, but I do like it.
