*New York Public Library officials this week announced they have acquired Maya Angelou's private collection of correspondence and notes. Three hundred and forty-three boxes of her personal archive will be relocated to the Schomburg Center in Harlem, N.Y. The collection includes personal correspondence, notes for her autobiography and fan mail.
*Not to be outdone, Anne Rice sold 7,000 books from her personal library to Powell's Books. The books are being promoted on Powell's website and will be sold at various Powell's bookstores.
*Speaking of smart promotions, someone had the brilliant idea of actually putting in print the fictional memoirs of fictional Mad Men character Roger Sterling. It'll be out in time for Christmas, which guarantees it'll be stuffing quite a number of ladies' stockings this holiday season. Wonder if there really will be a chapter entitled Joan?
*Tolkein fans, rejoice! Studio execs finally reached a deal with New Zealand unions, ensuring The Hobbit will be filmed in the gorgeous country that starred as the LOTR backdrop.
